About Us
Rooted in the Wasatch
A small nature school helping Salt Lake City kids grow outside.

Trailbreak started with a simple idea: kids do their best growing outside, with friends they know and a mentor they trust. We keep groups small, keep the same instructors with each pod all semester, and let the mountains around Salt Lake City do a lot of the teaching.
Every season, kids practice real outdoor skills, take on hands-on projects, and leave with more confidence than they came with.
What we stand for

Qualified, caring instructors
Every pod keeps the same instructors for the whole semester, with one for every 10 kids, so kids build a real relationship with a mentor who knows them.

Flexible semester-based learning
Programs run in semesters with options for different schedules, so busy families can mix and match what works.

Curriculum you can trust
Each week builds on the last, from trail basics to kids leading their own hike, with safety practices built into every day.
Safety
Families trust us with their kids outside. Here’s what we do every single day.

Trained instructors
Every instructor holds current Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification.

Background checked
All staff pass a background check before working with kids.

Small ratios
One instructor for every 10 kids, never more than 20 in a group.

Weather plans
We check conditions every morning and contact families if plans change.

Sign-in and pickup
Kids are only released to adults listed on your family account.

Health info on hand
Allergy and medical info, a full first-aid kit, and a charged phone go on every outing.
Jobs
We’re always looking for patient, safety-minded instructors who enjoy working with kids outside. Tell us about your experience and we’ll be in touch when a spot opens.
